You may be wondering what is a Surface Pattern Designer and what do they do? They are an artist/creative who design patterns to be applied to a surface. Majority of the times the patterns are in a repeat and can be seen on fabric, wallpaper or gift wrap – but in reality the list is endless! These patterns can be hand-drawn, painted or created digitally, using various software programs.
Majority of my designs are hand-drawn and then scanned into my computer. I will then digitally manipulate the individual motifs in Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator depending on the feel and look of the design.
If you have any questions about Surface Pattern Design then please feel free to contact me or follow me on my journey on Instagram.
One of my designs were inspired by this fern that I found in my back garden.
I chose to create a linocut of the Fern.
Having prepared the linocut, I printed it using black ink. Once dried, I was able to scan the image - ready to manipulate in Photoshop.
My completed design that was printed on my eco-friendly postacards.
